Tutorial: Funding Acquisition
The acquisition of funding and projects is essential for each university or institute. For example, the Institute for Geoinformatics in Münster is working with 7-8 staff members regularly paid by the university. But 30-50 additional staff members (students and research assistants) are working at the institute and are paid by funded projects.
Therefore, many of you will already be involved in project acquisition before finishing your Master or PhD thesis. And you will definitely be involved in project acquisition if you go on with an academic career. The goal of this tuturial is to provide some theoretical background on funding acquisition, and to apply the theory in practice.
The tutorial consists of three parts:
- Presentation of theoretical backbround: funding organizations and programs, partner acquisition, evaluation of funding programs, proposals/proposal writing
- Proposal writing: You will write some essential parts of an application to the German Research Foundation (DFG) for a "Research Fellowship" - a program, which some of you might go for in reality after your PhD.
- Analysis: Two to three "mini-proposals" will be analyzed in detail in the final plenum.
