Tutorial: The in's and out's of writing a thesis
Never to be underestimated, writing a Master's or PhD thesis is one of key projects in GIScience graduate studies. What does writing a thesis involve? What should you be aware of--both formally and informally? How do you get help? In this workshop we'll draw on experts' and your experiences and thoughts to develop an inventory of key issues for thesis writing. Beyond these pragmatic issues the workshop will also help you address a key question: what makes a good thesis? Discussion in the workshop will start with the proposal that a good PhD should suggest more work that needs to be done than what was actually done on the thesis. It should also make a contribution to existing scholarship and open doors for future contributions. How Master's thesis differ from PhD thesis will be another topic in the workshop.
